Antique mournful monk bookend by Judd circa 1925
Get this somber but studious monk bookend to commemorate your own monk-like existence. This piece was made by the H. L. Judd Company around 1925 in Wallingford, Connecticut. You can find this monk in a 1920s Judd catalog, as shown in the pictures.
The monk is in pretty good condition after some repair work, though there is significant chipping in the finish and a dent on the back of the head. The bookend is hollow gray metal with a heavy weighted sack inside. When I found this piece, the sealed hatch on the bottom had broken open. I thoroughly resealed the hatch with an epoxy (see pictures), and replaced the old felt with new black felt. Now it's ready to sit on your bookshelf.
The piece is 7 3/4" tall, 6" wide, 6" deep, and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.
